The “Get Fat Quick” Plan-7 Steps You Don’t Want To Follow

Monday, December 31st, 2007

By Dean Carlson As a fitness professional, I sometimes get into discussions with my friends or family regarding nutrition and weight loss. While I always enjoy talking “shop” and want to help as many people as I can live a healthier lifestyle, it didn’t take too many of these conversations to figure out this truth; while a lot of people say they want to lose weight, not many people want to do what it takes. This is probably not earth-shattering news, but as obesity levels and preventable disease rise at a seemingly uncontrollable pace, it is frustrating. Here’s the scenario - Friend asks “I want to lose 10 lbs of bodyfat, what should I do?” I say “Eat lean protein and vegetables with every meal” He replies “I don’t like vegetables, what else can I do?” I can see we are off to a rousing start. I make the following suggestion “Ok, let’s start slowly; make sure you eat a good breakfast, including lean protein and complex carbs, every day. Nothing else, just that.” He tells me “That would be pretty tough, I usually run out the door and grab a coffee and bagel on the way to work.” I suggest “Why don’t you get up 30 minutes earlier and have a cup of coffee while you make a nice veggie omelet?” He retorts “Are you crazy? I’m usually up late unwinding and watching the tube, I have to relax sometime! I’d be toast all day if I got up earlier.” And round and round we go… You know what? I decided it would take less time and serve more people if instead of nutrition and exercise plans I just wrote a “get fat quick” plan. Since most of the “talkers” seem do the opposite of what I suggest, maybe a little reverse psychology is in order. So after long periods of development and tested by hundreds of thousands of people, here it is! 1. Under no circumstances eat breakfast. If you have to eat something, make sure it has the words “swiss double mocha” or “creme filling” in the ingredients. 2. Don’t prepare your food ahead of time. It is much more efficient to go down the block and grab a double cheeseburger and a large order of fries than to bring a healthy bag lunch. And don’t walk to the burger joint; drive. 3. Drink large amounts of soda, and not that wimpy diet stuff either. The sugar and caffeine will give you the “edge” you need to get throught the day. If you start getting tired, just drink another one. 4. If you absolutely are convinced you need to eat vegetables, make sure you eat corn and potatoes, and don’t skimp on the butter. Better yet, stick with onion rings and french fries. You can’t be too careful! 5. Make sure you eat a big dinner, preferably pasta or pizza. It’s a long way to the next “swiss double mocha”. 6. Try to get at least 3-4 hours of quality time in front of the television. Put a channel block on any station that in any way might motivate you to exercise. Don’t forget the bag of chips. 7. Aim for no more than 5-6 hours of sleep a night. This does a couple things; it makes it less likely you will have the energy to workout, and poor sleep habits are great for packing on the pounds! So there you go, seven quality tips to get fat and stay fat. I wonder which is easier, getting up 30 minutes earlier, or rehabbing from quadruple bypass? I hope you never have to find out the hard way. About Dean: Fed up with the way he looked and felt, Dean Carlson decided enough was enough. After wading through the conflicting diet and fitness information, and through much trial and error, he found himself 80 pounds lighter and with a new outlook on life. His desire to help other people get healthy and fit without going it alone led him to start Cr8 Health & Fitness, where he shares his knowledge and passion for fitness with others looking to get off the diet roller coaster. Dean is a Certified Professional Fitness Trainer with the National Exercise and Sports Trainer Association. How You Can Burn Fat Swimming and Walking

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By Paul Foley You can burn fat swimming and walking if you really want to. Swimming and walking are two great ways to burn fat and get in shape. It is not as hard as you think. Many people never try to get rid of fat and lose weight because they think a big exercise program is going to be hard to do and too time consuming. Nothing could be further from the truth. As a matter of fact you can burn fat swimming and walking just as easily as those who take regular trips to the gym. To start with you need to understand what cardiovascular exercise is. Aerobic exercise is a type of exercise in which muscles draw on oxygen in the blood as well as fats and glucose, that increase cardiovascular endurance. Swimming and walking are two great forms of cardio exercise. Swimming is among the highest calorie-burning activities because of the way the water supports your body. Since your muscles don’t have to split attention between keeping your frame upright and moving you forward, they will expend more calories in moving you through the water. Swimming uses almost all of your major muscle groups. It places a vigorous demand on your heart and lungs. Swimming is also popular with people who are extremely overweight, pregnant, or suffering from some kind of injury. Swimming is also great because water requires more work on your part to push against it and move forward. This takes more effort from muscles allowing you to burn more fat and calories. Walking is also good for burning calories if you get your heart rate up. This means picking up the pace and trying to walk in hilly areas that challenge your muscles. You can duplicate that effect by using a treadmill that has an adjustable incline. Some treadmills have programs that give you the feeling of walking in a hilly area, these programs will adjust the incline throughout the workout to strengthen and tone several areas of your body. Include arm movements with your walk and you boost your heart rate and metabolism. As always this means more calories are being burnt. Interval training is a good choice as well because of the amount of calories you can burn during a workout. It can be incorporated with brisk walking whether you’re at the gym or on the street. In summary to burn fat swimming and walking you have to get up and do it on a regular basis. Having a well rounded exercise program and including walking and swimming will help keep you from burning out doing the same thing over and over. When It Comes To Some Of The Popular Myths About Hair, Don’t Believe Everything You Hear

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

By Gregg Hall Many of us have heard a few hair myths, but which ones should we believe. Are the myths really just a myth, or are some of them true? There are some things that you can do to damage or cause hair loss, and there are some things that are not bad for your hair. Don’t believe everything you hear about your hair though, there are some pretty crazy myths out there. Here are a few of the common myths we thought we would straighten out for you. First myth we want to correct would be the myth that cutting your hair will cause it to become thicker. This is not true. The thickness of your hair cannot be altered by cutting it either, even though it may appear too. If you think your hair looks thicker it may be because your hair is thicker at the base than it is at the tip. The only thing you can do try to thicken your hair would be a texturizing perm or dye, or volumizing shampoo. Cutting your will also not cause it to grow faster, neither will brushing it one hundred strokes a day. If you brush your hair this much you may actually cause more damage and breakage to your hair. Hair usually responds better when you use a comb anyway. Next are a couple of myths about shampoo and conditioner. With shampoo you only need about a quarter size to get your hair clean. If you have very long hair you may need a little more, but not too much. All that extra shampoo is not doing you any good. Next is how often you wash your hair. Washing your hair everyday will not harm it if you have the right shampoo for your type of hair. Washing your hair can actually make it healthier. Conditioner does not repair split ends. Yes that’s right, it does not repair. Conditioner may make the hair look as though it is less damaged, but it does not repair the damage. A good conditioner may also help protect your hair from future damage. Here are a few myths about things that do not cause hair loss. Dying, perming, blow drying and sun exposure do not cause hair loss. It is true that dying and perming your hair may cause damage to your hair, especially if you over do it, but it will not cause hair loss. Blow drying can also damage your hair by burning it or drying which may cause it to fall out, but the hair will grow right back. In order for the sun to cause hair loss it would have to affect the follicle, which it doesn’t. Here are a couple of things that may cause hair loss so pay attention. Stress, diet, and tight hairstyles are all linked to hair loss. If you are extremely stressed you may suffer from temporary hair loss. Once the stress has passed the scalp usually recovers and the hair returns to normal. Diet can also cause hair loss, so make sure you are eating healthy to keep your body healthy and functioning properly. Tight hairstyles that are worn for long periods of time can damage and break the hair and cause tension to the scalp. In some cases this hair loss has become permanent. This of course is from wearing your hair like this all the time, but be sure you are aware of the damage you can cause. A more relaxed hair style will benefit your scalp and your hair. Smokers are you ready for this? Smoking can cause your hair to turn gray or fall out faster. Studies have shown that smokers are four times more likely to get gray hair than women who don’t smoke. Smoking has been shown to speed up hair loss too. If you needed another reason to stop smoking here it is. Gregg Hall is an author living in Navarre Florida. An Introduction to the Bonsai Tree

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

By Rob Mellor There are many myths which are associated with bonsai. This not only confuses budding enthusiasts, but also gives the pastime a bad name. A bonsai is not a genetically dwarfed plant and is not kept small by cruelty in any way. The techniques of Bonsai are no crueler than that of any other horticultural endeavor. In fact, given an adequate supply of water, air, light and nutrients, a properly maintained bonsai should outlive a full size tree of the same species. It is a common belief that bonsai are only a few centimeters tall. This is not entirely true, although bonsai are small in comparison to their huge life-sized brothers; most are over 20 centimeters tall and up to 1 to 1.2 meter in height. How to develop a BonsaiThere are different ways to develop a Bonsai. Bonsai can be developed from seeds or cuttings, from young trees or from naturally occurring stunted trees transplanted into containers. Most bonsai range in height from 5 centimeters to 1 meter. Bonsai are kept small and trained by pruning branches and roots, by periodic repotting, by pinching off new growth, and by wiring the branches and trunk so that they grow into the desired shape. Bonsai are ordinary trees or plants, not special hybrid dwarfs. Small leafed varieties are most suitable, but essentially any plant can be used, regardless of the size it grows to in the wild. The bonsai may suggest many things, but in all cases must look natural and never show the intervention of human hands, with the exception of Chinese bonsai which in many cases depicts images of dragons and other influential symbols of the culture at the time of origination. Grown in special containers, bonsai are primarily kept outdoors (with the exception of some plants suited, trained and grown indoors), although they are often displayed on special occasions indoors. The bonsai with its container and soil is physically independent of the earth since its roots are not planted in it, is a separate entity, complete in itself, yet part of nature. A bonsai tree should always be positioned off-center in its container, for not only is asymmetry vital to the visual effect, but the center point is symbolically where heaven and earth meet, and nothing should occupy this place. Prized possessionGiven proper care, bonsai can live for hundreds of years, with prized specimens being passed from generation to generation, admired for their age, and revered as a reminder of those who have cared for them over the centuries. Although these bonsai are extremely beautiful - meticulously cared for over the years and containing such a wealth of knowledge, age is not essential. It is more important that the tree produce the artistic effect desired, that it be in proper proportion to the appropriate container, and that it be in good health. Overall, bonsai are something that are quite personalized and there are no strict rules to abide by if you undertake it merely as a hobby which to gain enjoyment out of. It does not have to be an expensive commitment, but it is a commitment that requires a great amount of time, patience, skill and endurance. Although things may not go to plan, don’t give up. Compare Cell Phone Deals

Friday, December 28th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Eric_Morris]Eric Morris There are many cell phone deals available on the market today. Each deal is different, and it is very important for someone choosing a cell phone connection to understand them so that they can get the best deal. One needs to compare cell phone deals before he or she goes in for a connection. The most important thing to compare in these deals is obviously the cost of the calls and other charges like the charge for short message service (SMS). Usually, prepaid cell phone deals are more expensive in this matter, since it does not involve a minimum time period guarantee and other fees may be involved with it. However, for those who sign a contract with companies for payments that are made monthly, there are a lot of fees and charges to be paid and, thus, increase the monthly bill. However, this is a good option for them since these deals come with a lesser per minute usage charge and a lesser charge of SMS. Such deals are best for those people who use their cell phones extensively. However, even for these deals, one needs to compare the prices of various things like monthly rental fees, termination fees, and service fees. One also needs to find out if a variety of cell phone deals are available with them. One may have the idea of using a mobile phone for various other things like SMS and taking pictures. One then needs to know the companies and the deals that are offered by various cell phone companies on the connection that you take from them. There are other facilities that are available from cell phone companies like family plans, children plans, and even corporate plans. Many companies have closed-user group facilities where calls made to the user group are charged at a lesser price. One thus needs to compare one’s needs and requirements while making comparisons to find the best cell phone deals. It is also a good idea to go into various Internet sites that offer such comparisons to find out what suits one’s requirements the best. High Volume Merchant Account

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

By Shane Penrod When your business grows to the point where it is ready to move into the electronic age, you should give some thought to opening a high volume merchant account to expand your companys potential. A merchant account will allow you to partner with a local bank or another financial institution to provide credit card processing payment options to online customers through the company Website. Creating a high volume merchant account will let you increase operating capacity to process exponential numbers of customers and credit transactions. You wont have to worry about keeping correct change on hand at all times, nor will you have as many bad checks to chase after. Your customers wont have to look for an ATM and pay extra usage fees to get cash when they wish to shop at your companys physical location or online Website. You can hire fewer people to accept payments since your electronic equipment will be able to do that for you. In a short time your profits may soar as operating costs dwindle. To apply for your high volume merchant account, first find a bank that offers this service. It need not be in your area, as you can now do most banking tasks online via the Internet. You will probably want to open your merchant account in a country that is economically stable. One with U.S. bank branches might be particularly useful in helping you open a high volume merchant account, since many U.S. banks enjoy a highly esteemed international reputation. Whether you apply online or in person, you will need to show proof of your citizenship and your companys country of operation. You must show that your business does not involve illegal, and in some cases, immoral activities like pornography, gambling, pharmacy, and telemarketing initiatives. Generally, there are no limits on volume, so even if your credit card processing unit brings in far more profit than anticipated, you need not worry about being charged extra fees, although you will have to clarify this up front. Your application for a merchant account could be approved in a day or two, which means you could start accepting credit card payments in a couple of days. Of course, you will need to select the type of credit card processor that you want to use either at a physical location or via your online Website. You may want to use a wireless processor for employees who travel from one site to another. Your high volume merchant account will be ready for business promptly to ensure that payments can be processed right away for your customers convenience and your companys profit. Many entrepreneurs, company owners, and managers find it exciting to expand their operations to include credit card processing options so that customers can shop night and day, 24/7. Start browsing online banking sites or community financial institutions that can provide this opportunity, and carefully read the conditions and terms for each institution before you choose one and apply for your high volume merchant account. How to Lose Weight Permanently - in 3 Steps

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Janice Elizabeth Small For many people losing weight is not so much the problem as keeping it off. You may find that you have the willpower to stick with your diet and reach your target weight. But although you feel great having achieved your goal, somehow the weight always creeps back on. The fact is to lose weight permanently you need to make permanent changes to your lifestyle. After all your lifestyle made you overweight - so if you don’t change that lifestyle you’ll get right back to your overweight state no matter how much weight you lose. 1. Set your standards Decide right now to stop putting up with the standards you’ve set for yourself so far. Is how you treat your body and how you spend your time really how you want to live your life? Are you satisfied with how you are looking after your health? with the food you eat? with your energy levels? You don’t have to put up with a flabby out-of-condition body, junk food and lack of physical activity. You can have a life where you eat delicious nourishing food all the time, where you have plenty of energy, a sparkle in your eye and a spring in your step and where you are toned, fit and healthy. Decide right now to raise your standards and play in a new league. 2. Squash your limiting beliefs You may want to change your lifestyle but you’ll never succeed unless you believe you can. Failed diets and abandoned exercise regimes (and maybe you’ve had many of those) can destroy your confidence in being able to make changes. But actually all you need is the right strategy and anyone can succeed at making quite far-reaching changes without backsliding. If you’ve not succeeded before you just haven’t found a way to make changes which is right for you. It doesn’t mean you can’t ever succeed. Start by imagining yourself living to your new standards. How will you look, how will you move and how will you feel? Become comfortable with these images so that they will feel less and less foreign to you. The more you use your imagination the more you start to accept in your subconscious mind that this could be a realistic future for you and it will give you the motivation you need to make changes. 3. Make changes stick We all have a comfort zone which consists of everything that we are used to in our lives. To make permanent changes that you are happy to stick with forever you have to expand the things you are comfortable with. The problem with standard diet and exercise regimes is that they ask you to make huge changes all at once - they have you stepping miles away from your zone of comfort. If you are happy making drastic changes - go ahead. If you can stick with it you’ll lose weight quickly and permanently. But chances are you’ve tried this - probably many times - and although you start out with great intentions you just can’t keep those changes up. It’s no wonder - because they work right against human nature. The secret of making changes permanent is to expand your comfort zone gently. Make one or two small changes and get used to them before you try and change anything else. Only you will know the scale of the changes you’re happy to make and how long you’ll need before those changes feel like part of you. Research suggests it needs about 21 days to form a new habit. If you create new healthier habits one after the other in this way, the weight loss will follow automatically. And because you have become comfortable with each change you will lose that weight permanently too. Sew An Easy Shawl For An Elegant Gift In Less Than 30 Minutes!

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Marian Lewis There is no fitting required. It takes just a few stitches on your sewing machine. And, you need no sewing pattern. Women of all ages love shawls from teens to senior citizens. Sew some for your favorite charity. Give the gift of something homemade. Even if you know very little about sewing, you can makequick and easy, elegant shawls in less than 30 minutes. Whether for a dressy occasion or to ward off the chill fromyour shoulders in a restaurant, you will want to sew severalof these shawls for yourself and to give as gifts to youngand old alike. They are attractive and so popular now. Make this triangular shawl from a square of fabric. Here are five methods that you may use to make your shawl. SUPPLIES: Fabric: 1-1/2yards of 54″ fabricor1-2/3 yards of 60″ fabric. Trim: Trim the shawl with purchased fringe or beaded trim. You will need: 3 yards of trim or fringe for the 54″ square or 3-1/3 yards of trim for a 60″ square. CONSTRUCTION: Square the ends of your fabric. METHOD 1 Trim the shawl with fringe. Stitch fringe along 2 sides of the shawl 1/2″ from theedge on the right side of the fabric. Make sure the endsof the fringe are towards the inside of the shawl. To make the shawl: 1. Fold the square into a triangle with the right sidestogether. 2. Pin and stitch through the same stitching that attachedthe fringe to the fabric. 3. Leave an opening 3″ to 4″ along one edge. 4. Turn the shawl right side out through the opening. 5. Press well. 6. Slip stitch the opening closed. METHOD 2 Finish with topstitching and no trim. 1. Fold the square into a triangle with the right sidestogether. 2. Stitch a 1/2″ seam on the two sides of the shawl leaving anopening 3″ to 4″ along one edge. 3. Turn the shawl to the right side through the 3″ opening. 4. Press well. 5. Slipstitch the opening closed. 6. Topstitch 3/8″ from the two outer seamed edges.
