Choosing a Maui Wedding Package

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

By Kevin Stith Just like anywhere else in America, there are a variety of businesses offering different Maui wedding packages. A quick bit of research online or from the Maui Visitors Information Service, will quickly overwhelm you with wedding package choices. They range in price from as little as a few hundred dollars to, really, as much money as youd like to spend. A lot of people opt for the simple wedding service for two on a secluded beach, with a few simple appetizers, some champagne and a hotel room to start your honeymoon. Weddings such as these can be arranged for you for as little as $200, depending on the hotel room, of course. More expensive Maui wedding packages offer a ceremony on the beach with live music and as soon as youve recited your vows, you and your new spouse will be whisked off to a waiting yacht for a moonlight cruise in the gentle ocean waters as you begin your honeymoon in style and splendor. For the more traditional, there are Maui wedding packages available in a variety of wedding chapels across the island. For a small fee you can drive up to the chapel, get married and then depart on your own to start your honeymoon and continue your vacation. Other people prefer to arrive by limousine, take their vows and then enjoy a lavish party for their friends and loved ones at the location. Others prefer to get married in the lovely town of Lahaina where you can get married and then party till dawn at any — or all — of the towns famous watering holes. Maui Weddings Info provides detailed information about Maui wedding packages, planning, ceremonies, cakes, photographers, and more. Maui Weddings Info is the sister site of Las Vegas Weddings Web. How Many Daily Intake of Calorie Should I Have To Lose Weight

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

By Gerry Restrivera Bringing your weight down through a diet is not a matter of eating less, but rather of controlling the number of calories you take in a given day. While this translates to most people as simply eating less of everything, this is actually not true. You don’t have to eat substantially less to lose weight; you just have to watch what you eat and your daily intake of calorie. The best thing you can do for weight control is to do your research and monitor your daily intake of calorie, and here are the steps you should take to make yourself a diet plan that will help you to lose weight without the usual dread of starving yourself. The first thing you need to do is check your ideal body weight for your height and compare it to your actual weight. Yes, I know this can get depressing but you have to give yourself a goal, and that ideal weight is what you should strive for. Next, download a calorie calculator from the internet that lets you figure out your how many calories someone at your IDEAL weight should be taking in a day for body maintenance. Needless to say, you should NOT strive to match this intake immediately if you’re at, say, 200% or more of your ideal weight. But at least you now have a better idea of the daily intake of calorie you’re shooting for. Then you should look for food calorie references, either from books or the internet, and pretty much go over the list. Start by listing which foods you eat and in what quantities to monitor your daily intake of calorie. You’ll immediately be able to pinpoint the biggest culprits in your regular diet that provide huge calories for relatively minor amounts eaten. Kick those from your day to day eating habits if possible to regulate your daily intake of calorie, especially if they’re empty calories like those found in junk foods. Then, list the foods that you regularly eat (or can tolerate, at least) which have a low calorific value for their mass. These can make up the bulk of your diet when you start out, so that you can eat almost as much as you used to but fewer daily intake of calorie. Make yourself a timetable where you gradually decrease the amounts of food taken until you eventually get to the required daily intake of calorie for someone at your ideal weight. Be realistic about this. The farther you are from the ideal weight, the more time you should give yourself, or your body may actually suffer from shock due to sudden and excessive weight loss. Make the plan and consult with a dietician to be safe. Once you get to the point where you are having enough daily intake of calorie to support your ideal weight, don’t go below that even if you’re still a bit overweight. Your body will naturally adjust to the decreased daily intake of calorie until you eventually arrive at the ideal weight. As a final note, don’t rely on a diet or monitoring your daily intake of calorie alone to help you get rid of unwanted fat. Exercise to speed the process along. Aerobics and calisthenics are great for this, though if you want something different just remember that any cardiovascular activity will help towards weight loss as well, and will give the added benefit of being healthy for your heart and lungs as well as helping you shed blubber. Before engaging in any overly strenuous exercises though, consult with your physician to make sure that you can actually handle it without risking your health. Losing weight is a struggle to most people and often a cause of frustration. But did you know that even if youve never succeeded at losing weight before, even if you have stubborn fat deposits that dont seem to bulge you can still lose weight and gain muscles if you know the right method to lose weight? Do you want to find out the best weight loss method that changed the lives of many overweight people? Enjoy Working Your Garden with the Right Gardening Tool

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

By David Chandler Nearly every gardener has some type of gardening tools. In fact, it is nearly impossible to have a garden without the necessary garden tools. What kind of gardening equipment you use will obviously depend on the size and extent of your garden, what you are able to handle, if you want to spend a lot of time in your garden or get it done quickly, and finally, how much money you are willing to spend. While many gardeners do not have expensive or high-tech gardening tools, all of them have some type of gardening equipment for cultivating. Tools for cultivating can include both hand held tools and power tools. What kind you buy depends on how serious of a gardener you are. Hand tools include your everyday items like shovels, spading forks, rakes, trowels, and diggers. These can all be used to get a garden ready for planting and are relatively easy and do not require much strength to use. Other tools include a wheel cultivator, pickax, and mattock. While power tools are a little more expensive than hand tools, they really cut down on the hard labor. The most essential piece of gardening equipment is undoubtedly the tiller. The tiller will break up the ground and get it ready for planting, chop up any debris, and help mix in fertilizer and compost. If you do not want to spend the money on a tiller, you can hire someone or rent a tiller. Other power tools that are very popular include chippers and garden shredders. If you have shrubs, hedges, or small trees in your yard, pruning tools are a vital piece of gardening equipment. Pruning shears are good for branches about in diameter, while lopping shears can handle branches from a half inch up to about 2 inches. Pole pruners are on a pole and can reach branches about 15 feet above ground. Hedge shears and pruning saws are both larger, more heavy-duty pruning tools for the serious gardener. Since your plants must be watered in order to survive, and lets face it, it doesn’t rain whenever we want it to, gardening equipment for watering is a must have. The one thing you cannot get along without is a water hose, everything after that is optional. Many gardeners use sprinklers or drip irrigation hose. There are even timers you can purchase for sprinklers or drip hoses, if you are willing to drop the extra cash. Gardening without gardening tools would be a nightmare. Sure there are some people who enjoy getting a little dirty while they plant their flowers, but even those types of people have the most basic of gardening tools, like a rake or a hoe. Gardening equipment is a part of gardening, as important as the dirt and the seeds. Comic Books - Fantastic Four Flashback

Monday, December 17th, 2007

By Michael Russell In this article we’re going to discuss another Marvel comics creation that became a very big hit, The Fantastic Four. The Fantastic Four have to be the strangest bunch of characters in comic books history and have certainly been involved in some of the most amazing adventures and found themselves in the most impossible situations. The Fantastic Four first hit the comic book scene in 1961. Its appeal was probably rooted in the fact that this was a family facing the kind of problems that no family should ever have to face. At one time the Fantastic Four were actually normal people just like you and I. As a matter of fact Reed Richards and Sue Storm were engaged when the comic first started and then got married a few years later. Johnny Storm is Sue’s brother. The only odd one in the group was Ben Grimm who was a friend of the family but ironically was also the heart and soul of this team. The event that took place that transformed this once normal family into the Fantastic Four was an experimental rocket ship that they had manned passing through a storm of cosmic rays. After this event, strange things began to happen to the passengers, things that would turn them into four of the greatest super heroes of all time. Each one was affected differently. This of course was by design as it gave each one certain powers that when combined with each other made the Fantastic Four something that was greater than the sum of their parts. Reed Richards underwent a transformation that literally turned his body into an elastic band. He could stretch and squeeze himself into places that no normal man could get himself into. This came in quite handy when trying to break into security buildings. Richards took on the name Mr. Fantastic. Between his scientific knowledge and his new ability there wasn’t much Mr. Fantastic couldn’t do. Sue Storm, soon to be Sue Richards, Gained the ability to become invisible. This was also great for sneaking into buildings and also for surprising her foes. She took on the name The Invisible Girl, then later changed it to The Invisible Woman. Reed and Sue took on the role of parents of the group while Sue’s brother Johnny became the spoiled child. Johnny Storm gained the ability to create fire from his fingertips. He took on the name Human Torch. His power was a great weapon and many times got the group out of dangerous situations. Finally, there is Ben Grimm who got the worst of the deal. He simply turned into a hideous looking monster known as The Thing. But Grimm was very strong and as previously mentioned was really the heart and soul of this group. He was the one who kept the others from missing the big picture. He was the glue that held this group together, especially when Johnny was acting like a spoiled child. These four went on to become one of the most famous teams of super heroes in the history of comic books which later spawned a cartoon show and a feature film. ——————————————————- Michael Russell Your Independent guide to Comic Books ——————————————————- Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Michael_Russell http://EzineArticles.com/?Comic-Books—Fantastic-Four-Flashback&id=143096 phentermine online perscriptions phentermine buy phentermine phentermine pills no prescription buy adipex phentermine

Anniversary Gifts - Thirteenth Anniversary

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

By Michael Russell If you thought your twelfth anniversary was a gold mine for getting some great anniversary gifts, unlucky number thirteen picks up right where number twelve left off with some really great gift ideas. If you’re worried that this number is going to be a disaster, these gift suggestions should be more than enough to ease your mind. We’re going to go over both the traditional and modern gift ideas for this “cursed” day. Part of the reason these gifts are so good probably stems from the fact that many people really are superstitious about the number thirteen. So whoever made this list must have taken that into consideration; good for the receiver of the gift; bad for the pocket book of the purchaser. The traditional gift starts out modestly, which is a good thing, because when you see what the modern gift is, your eyes are going to pop out of your head. The traditional gift for number thirteen is lace. There are quite a few things that you can get that are made out of lace. Most sleepwear has some kind of lace in it. If you sprang for sleepwear for number twelve you might want to go with something else or with the modern gift idea. However, lace is not just for sleeping. Just like you have linen tablecloths, which was part of anniversary number twelve, you also have lace tablecloths. Just remember, lace is a lot more expensive than linen, generally. Of course, it all depends on the tablecloth itself and the pattern. Just be prepared to spend a few bucks on this lovely gift. Another thing that’s made out of lace is curtains. If you have old curtains in your home, which by year twelve they are, then you might want to spring for a new set. Just make sure you measure carefully before you buy or have somebody come in and do it for you. The last thing you want is for your curtains not to fit. And, if you want to do something really unusual for your wife without having to spend a lot of money, take her to a lace museum. Yes, they really do have them. Once there, she can look around and if she sees something she likes you might want to think about getting it for her at some future time. Of course, if you really want to impress your lady, skip the traditional gift all together and head right for the modern idea which just happens to be fur. That’s right guys. Here is where you get the chance to buy your wife her first fur coat. But take my advice. Don’t try to surprise her with this. Take her down to be fitted and let her pick out the fur that she wants. Way too much can go wrong with picking out a fur coat that is just beyond the scope of this article. Old furs can be too dry and they can come apart easily. In addition, if the coat doesn’t fit just right, especially if it is too tight, the seams can come apart. Oh and just so you know, if you already don’t, a good fur coat can run you thousands of dollars. Isn’t married life wonderful? A Teeth Whitening Dentist Doesn’t Have A Fountain Of Youth - But Close

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

By Abbie Frank Okay, a teeth whitening specialist doesn’t have a fountain of youth nor are they the tooth fairy. What would you call someone though who can make your smile look years younger in only one visit? It’s possible to restore your teeth back to their earlier, more brilliant color. We all know were getting older. The person looking back at you in the mirror is definitely older and no longer the teenager they once were. In a society where appearance continues to be an important factor of success and relationships, you owe it to yourself to maintain a youthful smile. The magic of a teeth whitening dentist can restore your smile to that original brightwhite color. There are several good reasons you should consider the teeth whitening services of a professional dentist. REASON #1. Dedication to professional conduct and results. Although there are many products in the market that claim to whiten your teeth, none can compare to the brilliant white color from a professional restoration. REASON #2. Professional teeth whitening is much faster than any at home, do it yourself treatment. A professional dentistry practice that specializes in teeth bleaching has the products and equipment necessary to offer dazzling results in as little as one treatment. There’s no question that home teeth whitening kits do a good job on many common stains and discolorations. The problem is that it takes at least 14 at home treatments to come close to the results of just one visit with a teeth whitening dental professional. Although professional and laser tooth whitening processes may be more expensive, consider the difference in time of one hour, versus 14 hours at home. With our busy schedules, many people have come to realize that professional teeth whitening is actually a very good value REASON #3. Effectiveness. Professional whitening treatments use chemicals and compounds that are much stronger than those available in any home teeth whitening system. This means professional teeth whitening is also much more effective and gone are the extremely difficult to remove stains like those created by tetracycline. REASON #4. Comfort and convenience. Imagine each day having to prepare your tooth whitener trays in dealing with applying the whitening gel. And after the treatment having to clean and rinse that gooey tray to be ready for the next treatment. None of this is part of a professional teeth whitening service. Having a professional available to control the teeth whitening treatment will also limit any possible side effects like tooth sensitivity. A tooth can become sensitive to a hot or cold temperatures when exposed to teeth whitening chemicals for too long a time. Many teeth whitening professionals build their practice on cosmetic dentistry alone. Cosmetic restorations, including tooth whitening is as much an art as it is a science. Unlike regular dental work that’s covered under dental insurance, much of the cosmetic dentistry business is not covered. For this reason, professional teeth whitening services have a vested interest in making certain that you are completely satisfied Abigail Franks writes on a variety of subjects which include family, health, and home. Marketing Tip - The Top 6 Biggest Marketing Mistakes

Friday, December 14th, 2007

By Alan Boyer When I started to write this article on the biggest mistake almost every marketer makes I was going to focus on THE BIGGEST single mistake, but there are several. And, an even bigger aha moment is that most companies that “call themselves” professional marketing companies make the mistakes as bad, if not worse, than the non-professionals trying to build their own business.` Mistake #1 - Assuming that Marketing Results are Vague, Black Magic, and Not Predictable Marketing tip –Marketing done correctly will provide consistent, predictable results As a guideline, the national average for direct mail marketing is 0.5% to 1.0%, meaning that if you send out 1,000 letters, postcards, flyers, etc. And IF you are even average, then you should have between 5 and 10 people contacting you. Although that is considered average, doing some simple things can take that number up to 10%-30%, or even higher. Mistake #2 - Trying Marketing One Time and Giving Up….Because That Didn’t Work. Marketing Tip –Marketing Results, or Leads are one of the critical results of a business that are ABSOLUTELY necessary. In other words you can’t survive without delivering the number of leads needed to survive, nor will you ever super succeed without delivering the exact number of leads needed for that level either. Therefore, when someone tells me that they Tried marketing onceTried direct mail onceTried a newspaper ad onceOr any other approach in marketing and walked away because it didn’t work (that’s their opinion, not a reality) then I’m looking at a company that will fail soon, or at least not far down the road. Some move on to things that cost less in dollars and cents, but cost more in time, and the results delivered is almost nil. Delivering consistent marketing results, and in the right amount is not a choice. Do it or close your doors! Marketing Tip — Marketing results, or leads, are dependent on two things How many people see our marketing materialsThe percentage of those that see our materials who actually are COMPELLED to give us a call, signup, or touch base with us in some way.It looks like this: If I need 10 people to call me this week, and if I know that for every person who sees my marketing 1% will call me then I only have to touch 1,000 people with my marketing. Now does that sound hard? Of course it isn’t…if you are reaching out to over 1,000 people every week. (# exposed to marketing materials) X (response rate) = # leads . The problem is that in the hundreds of seminars I’ve done, most people miss that point totally. They report that they sent out 100 letters and only got 1 reply, so, in their opinion, it didn’t work because they didn’t get the 10 they needed. They missed the whole concept. Mistake #3 - Not knowing your response rate Marketing Tip - Always know your marketing response rate, or be finding it. So, when you send out marketing and have no clue of what your response rate is, then how in the world do you know how much to send? Well, I’d send out enough to hit the 0.5% as a test market, and then measure the actual results coming back to be used in the next mailer. Mistake #4 - Not knowing when your marketing isn’t working? Mistake #4A - Not sending out marketing because it is perceived that it “costs too much.” Mistake #4B - Not knowing what it requires to acquire a customer? These are sort of one in the same mistakes - Not knowing when your marketing isn’t working, and How to measure when it does work. And the answer to both is “what does it cost to acquire a client.”How would you define “not working?” There is only one time when your marketing could be defined as “not working” and that is when it costs too much to acquire a customer. Notice, I didn’t say what marketing cost. I said what it costs to acquire a customer. Most decisions to not send marketing this month are based on “fear of spending money” when the decision should be made on “for every dollar spent on marketing it will generate X times more dollars” and then we MUST know what X is. If X is larger than an acceptable figure we move forward no matter what the cost because it will always generate more money than we put in. Let’s look at it this way, if you could generate 15% every year in the stock market would you do it? Of course….most would anyway. I wouldn’t because I believe that for every dollar put into my business I see 10-100 times come out and so I’m always looking for where to invest my money for the greatest return. And if you start managing your business that way instead of where to “avoid spending” you’ll find the answer and see similar results. So what does it cost you to acquire a client? That usually is a result of not knowing what it costs to acquire a lead or acquire a customer, or what the response rate is for your marketing. Let’s say that a mailer costs you $0.35 (for a postcard, printed and mailed, using http://www.usps.com/ ). If you send 1,000 pieces, that is $350, and if you get 1%, or 10 calls, that lead cost you only $35.00 each….right? Not bad if you ask me. Now that is a lead, not a sale. So, let’s say that you close 40-50% of your sales, which I also consider a reasonable figure. That means that it costs you $70.00 to acquire a customer. If that is a reasonable figure for you, then your statement of “I can’t afford to send marketing this month” is nothing but a business killer.” It really should be changed to “how many customers do I want to buy this month” and then adjust the number of letters going out to deliver that result. If your sale is small enough that $70 will not work, then we’ve got to work on that we can. The point is you can’t afford to not make this work. We just have to find the results that will work for you. Marketing tip - Have a clear cost to acquire a customer, and knowing what is acceptable. Mistake #5 - Marketing that talks about you, your product, your features. Most companies look at marketing as a black hole, or black magic that they have no control over. That is only their perception….in which case they’ve made it reality….at least for them. You are going to get a golden niblet here. This is a huge mistake that businesses make, and this is the one that relegates them to the “less than nothing” response rates in their marketing. Learn that this isn’t about you, it isn’t about your product, it isn’t about the features of your product, or even what you do….it is only about one thing….”what your prospect wants and needs, or a solution to his greatest problem.” I know….I know…I hear the grumbling now….You say your product does all of that. The customer doesn’t know that, so don’t open your marketing with anything about you, your product, your features, or what you do. The first thing at the very top of your marketing should Get Your Prospect’s Attention by making a value statement about what kind of results the prospect could get, or will get, or you will guarantee that he will get, or that a previous customer has gotten. Make it in dollars and cents.Your response rate will jump up to over 5% to 10%. If you’ve been getting 0.5% to 1.0% (the national average) then this is a 10 to 20 times increase in the number of people walking through your door for a relatively simple change. If you’ve not even been hitting the 0.5% area, then it is how much bigger than where you are now….pretty darned big. I’ve seen customers increase their business results by over 10 times in a week by getting this right. Marketing Tip-Marketing is ALWAYS about the customer, his wants and needs, and his pain or solution. Not about you, your product, features, or what you do. Mistake #6 - Hiring a Professional Marketing Company That Won’t or Can’t Define Their Measurable Results When you hire anyone for anything, always ask for measurable results as a guideline. If you noticed in mistake #5 above, I suggested that you state your value in dollars and cents to the customer. After all, he will ultimately make a decision on hiring you or someone else based on the value you bring to the table. When you allow the customer to figure out what you are worth it isn’t likely to be anything near what you are actually worth. So, why shouldn’t you expect your marketing provider to provide you the measurements you need to make your decision? Also, when a vendor is aware that that is what they are responsible for delivering they will also start managing it for better and better results. It just seems to happen that way. So, IF you decide to hire out your marketing then ask one key question: What measurable results do you, as my professional marketing company, typically deliver? It should be a response rate, in other words a statement like “approximately 1% to 5% of the marketing sent out should call you” or what other action you want. And keep in mind that 1% is considered average and for a really good marketing company it should be a LOT higher. Now, here comes the surprise, and something that will save you a LOT of money. If they won’t give you a number…and MOST won’t…..what do you think that means? They don’t know - which means that that wasn’t on their radar screen, that isn’t something they are managing, and that WAS the reason you wanted to hire them…right? People manage what is important to them. They are managing their sales numbers, not the results they provide for you….get the idea? They don’t want you to know what their results are -no further comments needed here? Most will sidestep the question by stating things like: Everyone is different…therefore, I can’t answer that. You are different….so we’ll have to find what works for you.All are avoiding the real question….”What has been typical for their clients before?” You are buying results, so don’t get sucked into “beautiful graphics” or “fantastic copy” or “our clients are …..and …..”. when in reality, the only thing that counts are the results they have provided, the number of clients, response rates, dollars paid for dollars generated by their marketing. Do NOT allow them to take you away from measurable RESULTS…anything else is just activity that may or may not be delivering any results. They state results or walk. Marketing Tip - When you hire marketing companies they WILL state measurable results that can be backed up by talking to their customers or you WALK. Alan Boyer, Small Business Coach helps businesses to find the opportunities to multiply their business in weeks. The Pastor And The D-Word

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

By Michael Tummillo Can a pastor be divorced? Yes, a pastor can be divorced. Many pastors are currently in the process or have been. Before we decide on whether or not that makes it “right,” let’s take a look at a deeper issue: The word “Pastor” itself. Yes, the word does appear in the Bible in Ephesians 4:11: “And he gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as PASTORS and teachers.” This is the only place in Scripture where the word is actually used. Imagine! A single verse has come to define one incredibly significant, manmade office in every institutional church for 1700 years. Notice that the word used is the plural “Pastors” - NOT the singular “Pastor.” Whoever these “Pastors” were, there were apparently more than one in The Church (I’m not referring to a building here). About this, author Richard Hanson says, “For the people who first used them, the titles of these offices can have meant little more than inspectors, older men and helpers …it was when unsuitable theological significance began to be attached to them that the distortion of the concept of Christian ministry began.” The Greek word for”Pastors” is “poimen,” meaning “shepherds” (”Pastor” is Latin for shepherd). “Pastor” actually describes the FUNCTION of an individual in The Church (again, I’m not referring to a building), NOT an office or a professional title. As the word implies, Shepherds provide nurture and care for Gods sheep, loving them into maturity. Nowhere do we find their role defined in any way similar to that which describes the Catholic priests at the time of the Reformation: preaching, administering sacraments, praying for the flock, living a godly life, handling church discipline, church rites, caring for the poor, and visiting the sick. Protestant ministers can add to that list the praying over civic and community events like luncheons and 10K runs. I’ve excerpted the following from Frank Viola’s book “Pagan Christianity: The Origins of Our Modern Church Practices.” Viola writes: “The modern Pastorate rivals the functional Headship of Christ in His church. It illegitimately holds the unique place of centrality and headship among Gods people. A place that is only reserved for one Personthe Lord Jesus. Jesus Christ is the only Head over a church and the final word to it. By his office, the Pastor displaces and supplants Christs Headship by setting himself up as the churchs human head. “For this reason, nothing so hinders the fulfillment of Gods eternal purpose as does the modern pastoral role. Why? Because that purpose is centered on making Christs Headship visibly manifested in the church through the free, open, every-member functioning of the Body. As long as the pastoral office is present, you will never witness such a thing. “It is “lonely at the top” because God never intended for anyone to be at the topexcept His Son! In effect, the modern Pastor tries to shoulder the 58 NT “one another” exhortations all by himself. It is no wonder that most of them get crushed under the weight…The modern Pastor is the most unquestioned element in modern Christianity. Yet he does not have a strand of Scripture to support his existence nor a fig leaf to cover it! “Rather, the modern Pastor was born out of the single-bishop-rule first spawned by Ignatius and Cyprian. The bishop evolved into the local presbyter. In the Middle Ages, the presbyter grew into the Catholic priest. During the Reformation, he was transformed into the “Preacher,” “the Minister,” and finally “the Pastor”the man upon whom all of Protestantism hangs. To juice it all down to one sentence: The Protestant Pastor is nothing more than a slightly reformed Catholic priest…” Viola adds, “At best, this text [Eph 4:11] is oblique. It offers absolutely no definition or description of who Pastors are. It simply mentions them. Regrettably, we have filled this word with our own Western concept of what a Pastor is. We have read the modern idea of the modern Pastor back into the New Testament. Never in the imagination of a hallucinating man would any first-century Christian conceive of the modern pastoral office! Catholics have made the same error with the word “priest.” You can find the word “priest” used in the New Testament to refer to a Christian three times…” EXPECTATIONS OF A MODERN PASTOR Because the paid, full-time, vocational position of “pastor” in an organized institution cannot be found in Scripture, how can we apply Scripture to it…er…uh…I mean, him? Those gutsy individuals who willingly submit to the strain of the office are forced to undergo unfair scrutiny and an inappropriate standard of someone else’s definition of righteousness. Their marriages and families, too, suffer terribly. The statistical evidence of the lives of Pastors and their families is dismal across denominational lines. Sexual sin, marital breakdown, spousal neglect, spousal abuse, alcoholism, pornography, marital infidelity, misappropriation of funds, a lack of integrity, unbalanced ambitions, poor allocation of time and attention to responsibilities…Satan directs his relentless attacks at these Church leaders because, for those bent on destroying the greatest number of lives, like Samson of old, knock down the pillars first. That is to say, those whom we have MADE into pillars. Many in the Institutional Church ask if a divorced person should be permitted to serve as a pastor. The details of every situation are always critically important. In looking for a blanket answer, the danger exists of further mishandling Scripture and, subsequently, mistreating individuals. Frankly, how do we apply Scripture to an individual holding an unscriptural position in an unscriptural religious organization, something The Church was never intended to be? That’s ludicrous! We DO have biblical grounds for divorce: adultery (Matt 19:9) and abandonment (1 Cor. 7:15) and they apply to ALL of us. This does not settle the question for many about pastors and divorce, but it does reveal that ANY Christian can be the innocent victim of a spouses covenant-breaking sin. The biblical standards for the office of elder which includes pastors (shepherds, overseers) contain guidance about marriage. 1 Timothy 3:2-7 says “an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife.” Titus 1:6 cites this same qualification. Does this mean an overseer must never have been divorced? What if he was divorced before he became a Christian? What if he and his wife are emotionally divorced but physically living in the same home? Is the mere appearance of good in a bad situation any more weighty than the reality of perceived evil? Is that all we REALLY care about in the first place? Did Pauls earlier persecution of The Church disqualify him from planting churches? The Bible does not say that an elder can never have been divorced, but that, if married, he must be faithful to that one wife. A long-past divorce should not bar a faithful, fruitful person from serving The Church in any context. RELATIONSHIP BEFORE FUNCTION Should a person be “above reproach”? If a man committed adultery and abandoned his family, will any amount of time make him above reproach in the ministry? Is any man beyond redemption from God? Aren’t we ALL worthy of restoration? Cannot every human be transformed by the renewing of their minds? This is why “Relationship before Function” is so important. Too often, a man is asked to serve in a traditional church office as deacon or elder, simply because he looks good, smells good, has a pretty wife and writes big checks. I sat in a congregation for over a year before I would even accept a position of Associate Minister. I CHOSE to do that, knowing that the immaturity of current, recognized leadership WANTED me to serve as an elder. When they did, I gave them references they never asked for and informed them of my own divorce many years earlier. I wanted to make sure it was GOD leading both parties to that decision, not merely their perception of my spirituality. I had served as a “layman” for over a year and assisted them in every way but NOT as an Associate Minister. When I did accept the position, we had a very productive, very fruitful, life-changing ministry. If a man was the innocent party of a long-ago divorce, as was my case, and has gained the respect of Christians and non-believers by his subsequent conduct, his divorce should not render him less than “above reproach.” In addition, 1 Timothy 3:4-5 says, “He must manage his own household well for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church?” It takes time and relationship to demonstrate marital and family management. How can we interview a man of God and get to know him based upon a resume? Where does it say in God’s Word that divorce disqualifies anyone from God’s service? We’re not talking about infidelity or adultery. We are talking about two people whose marital difficulties have reached the point where, for one of them at least, staying married is no longer seen as an option. Paul’s directions to Timothy are clear that an overseer must be the husband of one wife. But when my wife divorced me, how had I violated Paul’s directives? In Malachi, God said, “I hate divorce.” Me, too! Marriage is like two pieces of paper glued together and pressed. Divorce is like trying to neatly peel those two pages apart. It’s a mess. It rips and tears people asunder, even innocent bystanders. I’ll NEVER counsel for divorce. I believe God is well able and quite willing to restore those who are struggling in that most holy of relationships. But it takes faith. It takes two. It takes obedience and unconditional love. I WILL counsel for separation IF the purpose is for reconciliation with an agreed-upon schedule of counseling, with homework, church attendance, etc. Quite often, when a woman separates from her husband, it gets his attention, especially when kids are involved. Sadly, too many who are separating tend to start dating again. That’s nothing but a lack of faith in action. JESUS ON DIVORCE Jesus was confronted one day by the Pharisees about the question of divorce and remarriage. The context of the passage, Matthew 19:3-9, the reason they continued to question Him, was NOT to learn whether or not a married couple could divorce. They already knew from God’s declaration in Deuteronomy 24, the passage to which Jesus appealed, that they could. What the Pharisees were after was to trap Jesus on the question of whether or not divorced couples could, according to Scripture, remarry. Jesus essentially said, “God’s original plan never included divorce, but because your hearts are hard, he permitted it on the grounds of adultery. If the marriage is dissolved because of adultery, the innocent party may remarry without jeopardy.” God initially said a husband and wife should not get a divorce. But who initially allowed a husband and wife to get a divorce? God. Is there a contradiction there? Yes, but the contradiction is within us, NOT with God. Is divorce wrong? Of course, unless Jesus lied. Does it disqualify an individual from God’s blessings or service to the Kingdom? No, because Jesus said, “Whoever comes to me in faith, I will never cast out. Scripture does not say that a divorced person is disqualified from ministry. If there’s any disqualification at all for pastoral ministry, it seems to come from remarriage which appears to contradict the Bible’s directives. But even if that’s true…for how long? What if the remarriage takes place after twenty years? Five years? Five months? I was remarried after 10 years. My wife had been divorced for ten, too. Long enough? It seems to have been, at least where God is concerned. Anna Stanley, wife of Charles Stanley, Pastor of the 13,000 member First Baptist Church in Atlanta and In-Touch Ministries, divorced him after 3 years of living apart. They tried to reconcile but their efforts failed. He had initially stated that he would resign from being Pastor, based on his own understanding of Scripture. In time, he prayerfully reconsidered. He now believes that, only if he remarried, would he disqualify himself from pastoring. I hope he’s hearing from God on that and not basing such a decision upon the traditions of men. Imagine if Stanley DID step down. Would he stop speaking about Christ? Would others stop LISTENING and INVITING him to speak? Would people cease to seek him out for counsel? Would he stop writing books? Would he start a blog? Though he would not be overseeing an assembly of 13,000 Christians, whose to say his influence would not far exceed that, as has my own? Though he would not be able to put “Pastor” on his business card, who cares? His gifts would make room for him (Prov 18:16). Yes, God hates divorce, but He LOVES those who GET divorced. He’s looking for anyone who is willing to side with Him, serve the cause of Christ and advance the Kingdom. If it’s an army of wounded healers, so be it. man may look only at the outside, but God, thankfully, is looking at the heart (1 Sam 16:7). The Father forgives us. He knows we don’t know what we’re doing. But He knows we love Him, just a like any child who misbehaves and takes their parents for granted on occasion. What Are The Benefits of Aromatherapy?

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

By Nick Mutt Aromatherapy is a holistic approach that facilitates equilibrium of physical, mental and spiritual health through essential oils. Aromatherapy essential oils and essences seek to stimulate and enhance the body’s own healing process so that the body is capable of regulating, maintaining and healing itself. Essential Oils are highly concentrated essences known for their healing effects. They work by stimulating the olfactory system and later the brain or limbic system. Essential oils have many different effects on the body, mind, and soul. Some have an analgesic and antispasmodic effect, while most are antibacterial. The fragrance, other properties and effects of the oil determine how these body systems and their parts are stimulated. During a massage, these oils are inhaled and absorbed by the body at the same time, penetrating the skin and eventually reaching the organs and body systems. Aromatherapy is known as a therapeutic natural practice that is commonly performed to energize, relax, and advance the beauty, health, as well as a sense of ease. It is highly considered as an energizing and relaxing treatment as it generally works to unite or balance the body, the mind, and the spirit of those who are taking it, leaving the person calm and active. Aromatherapy is extremely beneficial and is an excellent way of reducing stress. Once the diluted essential oils are applied directly to the skin, it is then completely absorbed and penetrates deeply into the tissues, interstitial fluid and bloodstream. It is through this process that aromatherapy as an energizing and relaxing treatment is highly deemed as a powerful health option. Aromatherapy massage in itself stimulates the blood circulation, increasing the supply of nutrients and oxygen to cells; and stimulates lymphatic flow, improving tissue drainage and improving the immune system. It is known to be one of the most effective ways to combat stress and stress related illnesses. Warning: Please note that using essential oils directly on your skin without diluting them with carrier oil may cause skin irritations to occur. Always read the safety precautions on the labels of your essential oils before using them. Copyright Nick Mutt, All Rights Reserved.
